My Van Dyke Parks best-of McD compilation has been out over 2 months now, and we’ve gotten some nice reviews, including a four-star write-up from Downbeat (in their January issue) and Stereophile. We’ve still got our fingers crossed that I’ll make some best-of the-year lists yet to be published.
In other news, I’ll be taking to the road in 2014 for two short trips with two of my trusted sidewomen. Vocalist Meschiya Lake and I will be going to Vienna the first week of April, with a possible extension in Genoa. I will travel to the LA area with vocalist/reedwoman Aurora Nealand on Feb 15 for two gigs, if you’re interested in attending one of them, shoot me an email for details.
Finally, I’m hitting the Twin Cities with trumpet man Kevin Clark for four gigs at the end of January, including the renowned jazz club the Dakota. For this occasion we are re-releasing our duet album from 2001, New Orleans Jazz Brunch (retitled “Smiles”), with extra tracks and new packaging. It’s been fun to work on a CD again, my favorite thing to do. Happy Holidays to all!
