Jazzfest 2011

Was a good one for me. I had four hits at the Fairgrounds: my duet with Evan Christopher, the James Booker tribute (two songs, including a duet with Lillian Boutte), a duet with clarinetist Anat Cohen on the interview stage (huge fun) and a similar appearance with the lovely Haitian diva Emeline Michel and Michael Skinkus. In fact most of my gigs these days seem to be duets. During the run of the fest I also played duets with vocalist Meschiya Lake (at Snug Harbor as part of the 11th Annual Piano Night w/Joe Krown and Marcia Ball) as well as Aurora Nealand (at Buffa’s) and trumpeter Kevin Clark at our new Sunday Brunch gig at Mojitos.

For the first time in years, I have several “steadies” a week. But this will end for now: it’s time to travel for the summer. First stop: Cuba! A two-week trip from May 16-30…..I’ll be writing about it after the fact, here and in Offbeat.
